Advances in sensors, mobile and embedded devices have made possible patient monitoring and provided medical treatments and other assistance in health care. Aging populations will benefit from reduced costs and improved health care through assisted living based on these technologies. In this paper we present a monitoring and control architecture allow control of a patient鈥檚 disease trough mobile and biometric devices. Our architecture is based on an Ambient Assisted Living control that provides different modules organized in a final application embedded in the mobile devices. This application is compounded by aspects like control of measurement, data obtained and representation, generation of suggestions, prevention, and education control. We have explored the architecture by developing a final application and implementing them in a prototype system. Our system shows the feasibility and opportunity of an open approach to ambient assisted living architecture.Advances in sensors, mobile and embedded devices have made possible patient monitoring and provided medical treatments and other assistance in health care. For this systematization of the line of productive innovation, CI Tecnolog铆a alimentaria S.A.S. was selected. private company that, for thirty-three years, has focused on the import and manufacture of equipment for the food industry, segmented into strategic lines such as baking and chocolate, meat, catering, packaging and agribusiness; for micro, small and medium enterprises. Consolidating as one of the companies in Colombia, with the largest market share during the last four years. However, based on the need to increase the sale of equipment and services to startups, the general objective is to propose a project area design in the organizational structure of the CI Tecnolog铆a Alimentaria SAS Company, measuring the degree of financial feasibility and introduce a consulting service to undertakings in the startup phase, which require financing with public entities. Based on theoretical positions aimed at innovation and business flexibility. This implied the selection of a mixed methodology that implies the use of quantitative and qualitative tools in order to analyze the object of study in a procedural, logical and evaluative way. For this reason, this systematization has two approaches, on the one hand, descriptive and on the other, remediation, making use of the documentary review and the calculation of financial indicators; With which it is intended to analyze, correct and improve the organizational structure of CITALSA through the Mintzberrg proposal (2012) and its six key or recurring elements in every organization: chain of command, level of centralization, margin of control, degree of specialization , structural formality and departmentalization. Likewise, the design of the consultancy is proposed through the five stages proposed by Guerreo (2017), such as exploration, planning, execution, the final report and the conformation of the file; which will be summarized in four consulting stages which are the diagnosis, the project consulting, the production and after-sales advice and design. Finally, the EVAPROYECT tool is used to demonstrate the feasibility of the project area through elements such as the net present value, internal rate of return and internal rate of opportunity. The result of this systematization was the analysis of the company's organizational structure, which was approached in three stages: the first until the beginning of 2021, the second during the updating of the company under the certification as Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and the proposal for an innovative organizational structure, taking up the theoretical postulates of Mintzberg (2012), followed by this, a design of the project area for the company is proposed, implementing the stages for consulting by Guerrero (2017) and it is concluded with a feasibility analysis of the proposal using the EVAPROYECT matrix. In such a way, the opportunity for improvement is evident through the structural change of the company in order to introduce a new service

An Affective and Cognitive Toy to Support Mood Disorders

    Get PDF
Affective computing is a branch of artificial intelligence that aims at processing and interpreting emotions. In this study, we implemented sensors/actuators into a stuffed toy mammoth, which allows the toy to have an affective and cognitive basis to its communication. The goal is for therapists to use this as a tool during their therapy sessions that work with patients with mood disorders. The toy detects emotion and provides a dialogue that would guide a session aimed at working with emotional regulation and perception. These technical capabilities are possible by employing IBM Watson鈥檚 services, implemented into a Raspberry Pi Zero. In this paper, we delve into its evaluation with neurotypical adolescents, a panel of experts, and other professionals. The evaluation aims were to perform a technical and application validation for use in therapy sessions. The results of the evaluations are generally positive, with an 87% accuracy for emotion recognition, and an average usability score of 77.5 for experts (n = 5), and 64.35 for professionals (n = 23). We add to that information some of the issues encountered, its effects on applicability, and future work to be doneLa computaci贸n afectiva es una rama de la inteligencia artificial cuyo objetivo es procesar e interpretar las emociones. Mobile and ubiquitous architecture for the medical control of chronic diseases through the use of intelligent devices: Using the architecture for patients with diabetes

    No full text
This manuscript presents a mobile monitoring application to allow a patient to monitor a chronic disease using mobile devices. This application is developed according to three components that enable the semi-automatic development of software, independent of the target disease and adaptable to the particular user needs. First, we present ontologies that classify medical elements such as diseases, recommendations, preventions, foods, mobile devices and diet suggestions. The second element is the distribution of the devices in layers, allowing the generation of final applications distributed in a medical context. These layers are defined to develop and maintain the set of applications. The third and most important element is developing patterns known as MobiPatterns. A MobiPattern defines the schema of each control module that is a part of the final application. These elements include formal models that seek to uncover fundamental principles and essential features and algorithms, which need to be revisited in the context provided by mobility. Aspects of the application such as the functionality, user interface, and response time for a group of patients have been evaluated in a final application targeting patients with diabetes. The design focuses on simplicity, extensibility, scalability, heterogeneity, and application customization. This manuscript presents a mobile monitoring application to allow a patient to monitor a chronic disease using mobile devices. The development of personalized mobile monitoring applications is a complex work. Currently, the most of applications for patients monitoring through mobile devices, is not developed considering the particular characteristics of each patient, but these applications have been developed taking into account a general behavior depending on the diseases instead of the own patients. The diseases manifest different symptoms depending on the patient situation. Mary and John (hypothetic patients) have diabetes, but the same measurement of glucose for each one affects their health in a different way. This paper describes a framework that allows the development of mobile applications, personalized for each patient, in such a way that even if they have the same disease, the application will respond to the individual needs of each patient. The development of personalized mobile monitoring applications is a complex work. Awareness marks: adaptive services through user interactions with augmented objects

The ambient intelligence paradigm involves one important challenge: to be adaptive to users and context through simple and natural interactions. To meet this goal, it is important to associate data with relevant everyday objects in the environment, including users themselves, and to enable interaction mechanisms between these objects. Following this premise, in this paper, we present a conceptual model to link contextual information with augmented elements acquired from user interactions in an implicit and transparent way. In this way, it is possible to personalize and enhance offered services in order to facilitate daily user activities. We call this contextual data ?awareness marks?, and these awareness marks make it possible to offer novel services adapted from past events that were captured as they happened. Moreover, we have developed and evaluated a set of prototypes using Near Field Communication technology, which follows the presented model

An NFC approach for nursing care training

Nowadays there is a need to improve the life quality of people in different social environments. One of the main fields to propose new improvements is healthcare. In this kind of scenario, health workers are doing a very important job because they are responsible for providing appropriate care to their patients. However, they are complaining about the complicated use of healthcare applications. In this paper, we describe a developed system based on NFC technology and touching interaction (as a complement) to help nursing students to perform patient care tasks with simple interactions, including medication administration, clinical tests, and vital signs supervision among other. This goal is achieved through NFC services deployment in the environment. Moreover, we have evaluated the developed prototype in two Nursing Schools obtaining interesting results.Nowadays there is a need to improve the life quality of people in different social environments.
